M3U8 describes UTF-8 playlist text. A URL may return a channel list, a master HLS manifest or a list of media segments. These serve different purposes even when the file extension is identical.
Check access requirements
A source may expire or require cookies, headers or tokens that are not carried in an ordinary playlist URL. Ask the source owner for a URL compatible with your player rather than removing its authorization parameters.
Test device support
If the catalog loads but playback fails, investigate the stream codec and container. A playlist format does not guarantee that your TV can decode the video or audio.
